Napkin Pillows

Pillow How-To

Lay a 20-inch square cloth napkin face down, positioning it to resemble a diamond. Center a 12- or 14-inch square pillow form on napkin. Fold in 2 side points of napkin to middle, then fold up bottom point. Hand-stitch through all 3 pieces of fabric along upside-down V, about 2 inches down on each side. Stitch a button to bottom flap near point. Fold down top flap; sew a loop of cord to underside of fabric as a button holder, ensuring it fits snugly around button when closed.

No Sew Crouching - Monogram

Couching How-To

Working in small sections, go over traced lines with fabric glue; carefully arrange cording over glue. To prevent fraying, treat all cut ends of cording with a dab of fabric glue.

DIY Pillows from Martha Stewart

Give plain sofa pillows vibrant personalities with easy-to-make pillow bands. These are made with wool; when the weather warms, they can be swapped for a more summery material, such as a cheerful printed cotton. To determine the size of the band, wrap a measuring tape around the pillow, and add 2 inches to the measurement. Cut fabric to desired length and width. If you're using a loosely woven fabric, pull a few threads along the long edges to fringe the sides. You also can finish the long sides with a 1/4-inch seam. Apply iron-on Velcro strips to the short sides, and fasten the bands around the pillows.
